Leadership Volunteer Opportunities

  • Role Summary

    The Garden Lead oversees seasonal planning, planting, and maintenance of The Broody Hen garden to ensure it supports both participant programming and farm stand operations.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Develop seasonal crop plans and rotation schedules

    • Oversee planting, watering, weeding, and harvest systems

    • Create clear, repeatable task lists for volunteers and participants

    • Coordinate garden workdays

    • Ensure safe and accessible learning opportunities for adults with disabilities

    • Collaborate with leadership regarding produce planning for the farm stand

    Experience Preferred

    • Gardening or small-scale agricultural experience

    • Ability to manage seasonal workflows

    • Comfortable teaching and guiding others

    Time Commitment

    4–8 hours per week during peak growing season (Spring–Fall), with lighter winter planning.

  • Role Summary

    The Farm Stand Lead oversees the coordination, organization, and presentation of our weekly sales events to ensure professionalism and mission alignment.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Coordinate setup, breakdown, and volunteer coverage

    • Manage inventory tracking and restocking systems

    • Ensure welcoming, mission-centered customer interactions

    • Support vendor communication and organization

    • Maintain consistent merchandising standards

    Experience Preferred

    • Retail, market, or merchandising experience

    • Strong organizational and communication skills

    • Comfort managing volunteers

    Time Commitment

    3–5 hours weekly during active farm stand seasons.

  • Role Summary

    The Treasurer serves on the Board of Directors and provides financial oversight to ensure accountability, transparency, and long-term sustainability.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Review financial statements and reports

    • Assist with annual budgeting and financial planning

    • Ensure appropriate financial controls and policies

    • Support compliance with nonprofit best practices

    • Attend quarterly board meetings

    Experience Preferred

    • Background in accounting, finance, bookkeeping, or business management

    • Comfort reviewing budgets and financial documentation

    • Commitment to fiduciary responsibility

    Time Commitment

    Approximately 3–5 hours per month, plus quarterly board meetings.

We design structured, hands-on projects that allow groups to work together toward a shared goal. Whether building gardne beds, preparing seasonal planting areas, organizing barn spaces, or improving farm infrastructure, each project is clearly defined and achievable with the scheduled timeframe. Teams leave knowing exactly what they accomplished and how is support the long-term sustainability of our programs.

Skill-Based Service

For groups or individuals with specialized expertise, we offer opportunities to apply professional skills in meaningful ways. This may include marketing support, landscaping design, carpentry, financial consulting, strategic planning or even coordination. Skill-based service strengthens our infrastructure and allows us to steward resources wisely while expanding opportunities for the adults we serve.
